Katherina Power-Kane, 20, from Belton, Loughborough has received a scholarship award to assist with her course at º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø

Kat is a first year student on the Foundation degree agriculture course at Harper Adams. The former East Leake Academy pupil has been awarded the Langford scholarship, sponsored via a personal donation to the university’s Development Trust

She said: “It is really rewarding to know that someone has recognised the hard work and effort which you’ve put in to your studies so early in to the academic year and to receive such a special and unique scholarship to help support this is incredible.

“I would like to thank Mrs. Langford and course managers for the opportunity to have this award which is greatly appreciated.

“My ambition is to pursue a career within the crop sector of an agricultural business. However other future career goals include having the opportunity to work not only in different locations with in the UK, but also around the world, such as America and New Zealand.

“I am currently a member of Young Farmers within the Leicestershire and Rutland area. Also I have had a keen interest in horse riding since the age of 4, as well as also enjoying other hobbies such as shooting and fishing and occasionally when I can I enjoy following local hunts around the country side.

“I have always had an interest in farming and the countryside, before living permanently in England, I originally lived in Ireland on a small farm in a village. Since moving to England I have also lived on a small farm in Leicestershire, growing up with cattle and surrounded by arable and grass land has hugely impacted my interests and career goals. Since starting my first year at º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø, I have had the greatest insight to what careers are available within agriculture, from Farm Business to Agronomy and also how I can achieve them.”
