Triad Z Club on Facebook

A Facebook page was set up for the Z Club in late 2010. There are photos and information from car shows and other events on the web page. This site could provide up to date information on upcoming events and would be a good place to keep tabs on the Triad Z Club and our members.

Fitzy Reaches the SCCA Hall Of Fame!

On Dec 8, 2010 the SCCA announced their class of 2011 inductees into their Hall Of Fame, to be formally inducted during the 2011 National Convention in Las Vegas. Fitzy's daughter and Triad Z Club friend "MJ" broke the news at our December meeting.
As noted in the SCCA announcement:

"Jim Fitzgerald was the most successful driver in the history of SCCA National Club Racing, earning more than 350 National race wins and two National Championships at the SCCA Runoffs during his 30-year career. In addition to his Club Racing career, where he spent many years behind the wheel of a Datsun, Fitzgerald earned 12 top-10 finishes in just 26 starts in the Trans-Am Series through the 1970s and 80s. “Fitzy” was also a renowned driving instructor until his tragic death behind the wheel at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix in 1987. The Jim Fitzgerald Memorial, including bronze bust and plaque, still stands at Road Atlanta, where he instructed for many years. The Jim Fitzgerald Rookie of the Year award has been presented annually since 1987 to the Club Racer showing the greatest promise during his or her first season of National Competition."

Alan Giles found this video of Fitzy and Paul Newman battling an XK-E for the 1980 SCCA C Production National Championship at Road Atlanta:

Video: 25th Anniversary of the Z Car

Nissan prepared a video in 1995, celebrating the Z America Relay. It has now been posted on YouTube:

Against All Odds Video

BRE has posted a YouTube link to the early 70s film, "Against All Odds". Originally a 16mm movie, it chronicles BRE's successful first season of the 2.5 Trans-Am Challenge with the Datsun 510. According to the Bluebirds List, BRE2.net now owns the rights to this Datsun film and they plan to issue a new very clean DVD copy.

PROJECT LS1 280Z V8
Members Scott and Ryan Moore continue work on conversion of their 1976 280Z to a LS1 engine with a T56 6-speed transmission. Their web site thoroughly documents the hard work and is a great resource for anybody contemplating a project of this magnitude. There are several links to helpful instructions. Knowing the quality of the work done by Triad Z Club members Mark Ulrich and Roddy Sugg of Speed Design, this will be a sweet ride.
Follow this link to Scott's site, bookmark it and follow their progress.

Original Triad Z Club License Plate
An original member of the Z Club (Peter Nowack) visited our May meeting, gave us a short history lesson and mentioned he was involved in the design of a license plate for club members.
Thanks to Riley Curtis of Lynchburg Nissan for sending a photo of an original Triad Z Club license plate, originally dating from the mid-70s. As Riley noted, this was carefully removed many years ago from his personal car and placed in safe storage.
