North Wales students thankful for scholarships

Two North Wales students were honoured at the recent scholarships presentation at º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø. 

Sion Roberts, 22, from Denbigh, and Catherine Haf Bletcher, 22, from Mold, received Jerman Scholarships to assist with their studies. 

Catherine, a final year agri-food marketing with business studies students and former Argoed High School pupil, said: “It is a prestigious honour to be a Jerman Scholar again in my fourth year.  I was deeply saddened when our sponsor, Mrs Jerman, passed away summer and it is a huge honour to continue to represent Mrs Jerman throughout my final year at harper. 

“The generous support received has been invaluable throughout my time here at Harper Adams and I feel it has certainly helped me to get the most out of my education. 

“In addition to the monetary support it has been lovely to get to know and meet Mrs Jerman and keep in touch throughout my placement year. The Development Trust team here at Harper Adams has been amazing. I would like to express my thanks to them also.”

During her third year, Catherine completed a work placement with Greenacres Animal Park in Mancot, North Wales. 

Sion, a former pupil of Ysgol Glan Clwyd, St Asaph, is in the final year of his BEng Agricultural Engineering course. 

He said: “I am very grateful to have received this award. The scholarship money has helped me with the financial cost of studying a degree. I will use some of the money towards tuition fees at º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø and the rest will be used to attend courses that will be of benefit to me in the workplace.” 

Sion has ambitions to work with crop sprayers, after spending the sandwich year of his course working for Househam sprayers in Lincoln, both assembling self-propelled sprayers in a workshop and in the design office. 

Both scholars are members of the Harper Cymru society for Welsh students at Harper Adams.
