Shulls Mill to Beech Mountain.
This scenic winding road exits from the Blue Ridge Parkway near Blowing Rock and continues
to Hound's Ears Club and NC 105. A right on NC 105, then left on Route 194 takes you to
Valle Crusis. The road that links Valle Crusis to Beech Mountain is a driving enthusiast
delight. Car and Driver's list of "10 Best Roads" missed this one. It's very steep in some
places with lots of 1st and 2nd gear switchbacks. Narrow and undulating, this road has scores
of blind turns, one lane bridges, few run offs, but almost no traffic. There's one surprise
hairpin turn posted at 15mph, which unless you're the world's greatest driver, is best taken
at a crawl. What better way to exercise your car?
